This is a listing for a vintage Santo Domingo necklace. It's strung with hand cut and rolled turquoise from the Kingman mine and accented with beautiful hand cut and rolled mother of pearl shell corn shaped tabs. The necklace is finished with antique red glass trade beads and closes with a sterling hook and eye clasp. It's strung on it's original bead cording and is in excellent vintage condition with no broken or missing beads.
There are tiny nicks seen in the heishi which are a result of the bead making process and an important part of it's hand formed beauty. The necklace has a total wearing length of 24 inches. The heishi are graduated in size with the largest turquoise bead measuring approximately 8 or 9mm across and the smallest 4mm. The white shell corn tab cut beads are. Usually these tabs will be made out of an opaque white shell.
The mother of pearl adds a beautiful iridescent quality to the necklace and is a wonderful accent along with the brilliant red trade beads. All the beads are hand cut, ground and polished with a nice polish. The turquoise displays a wide variety of colors, which the Kingman mine is known for. These are older beads carved when the mine was producing beautiful and colorful material. Shades range from a mixture of medium to dark blues and greens with a warm caramel and chocolate brown matrix.
