Elegant and beautiful Southwestern collectible jewelry. Large size with animals, bear, birds, buffalo, fishes, etc. Stones are made of red coral, turquoise, abalone, orange spiny oyster, mother of pearl, cedar wood, lapis lazuli and misc stones. Fetishes are separated by round Heishi beads. This piece was hand strung by Eunice Beronio, a Native American artist from the Navajo nation, Southwestern US. A lovely piece of collectible jewelry, makes a unique gift! Long size: 26 inches total (end to end). Zuni fetishes are small carvings made from various materials. These carvings have traditionally served a ceremonial purpose for their creators and depict animals and icons integral to their culture.

Typical traditional Zuni fetishes depict animals such as the wolf, badger, bear, mountain lion, eagle, mole, frog, deer, ram, and others. Modern carvers many produce images of non-traditional subjects dinosaurs, for example or some insects and reptiles that are traditional but more integral to petroglyphs, symbolism, and the patterns of design in pottery dragonflies, butterflies, water spiders, and lizards for example. Other animals, such as the horse, were carved in the past mainly for trade. The Zuni was not a horse culture, but their horse carvings were considered by the horse cultures to the north as having great power for the protection of their herds.
