The stringing is original and remains secure and very wearable. Fiber stringing cord will last and has been used for many decades by heishi makers. The necklace is finished with sterling cones and has a well done sterling wire wrapped finish. At some point the owner replaced the traditional hook with a sterling lobster claw. It's not as "authentic" but definitely is more secure, especially for a lightweight necklace.A heavy beaded necklace tends to stay connected due to it's weight applying leverage on the clasp. The beads are not as dark as the photo.
Coral always photographs slightly darker than it is. The color is an orangey tomato or very dark salmon shade. This necklace is noteworthy for the fineness of it's heishi and the quality of the coral. The finer the heishi, the more difficult it is to cut and roll them by hand. Each bead was cut, drilled, shaped (rolled or ground) and polished by hand. It's extremely difficult when done this way and these beads are only 2.5mm thick. The necklace weighs a very light 20 grams, a testament to the fineness of the beads and a perfect piece for the person who prefers delicate jewelry or needs a lightweight strand of beads. The coral has not been enhanced in any way and is no longer available for jewelry making. These beads were beautifully accented with turquoise heishi of the same size. So it's a perfect piece to layer with coral or turquoise. It will arrive first class with tracking.
