This is a listing for a vintage Santo Domingo necklace strung with hand rolled turquoise heishi beads. It's in excellent vintage condition with it's original stringing that remains secure and is very wearable. The stringing was done with a flexible and strong fiber cording.
It closes with elegant long curved cones that have been stamped and hallmarked as gold filled. The necklace has 3 strands that layer.
The shortest is 23 inches long and the other two drape below it. The cones are 2 and 1/8th inches long and it closes with a traditional hook and eye clasp. The beads 5mm in length and approximately 2.5 mm in width. This is very fine heishi, which was hand rolled. The process involves giving the turquoise stone a squared off flat finish on both sides, drilling a center stone and then hand rolling (sanding) the bead into a rounded shape, using finer sanding materials and then finishing it with a hand rubbed polish. Over half of the stone is lost in this process and it's very time consuming. There will be tiny nicks seen in some of the beads, which is a normal and expected part of this process. The turquoise is a rich medium teal green... Medium green with turquoise blue undertones with a golden brown matrix. It could easily be from the Kingman mine in Arizona.
It's a beautiful, elegant and rare heishi necklace. The item "Vintage Santo Domingo Hand Rolled Turquoise Heishi Necklace Gold Filled Cones" is in sale since Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
