This is a listing for a vintage 1970's Santo Domingo necklace strung with brilliant blue turquoise heishi and accented with 9 large turquoise nuggets from the same mine. It could easily be blue turquoise from the Royston mine in Nevada. The necklace is in excellent vintage condition with no damage and has been obviously well treated. The stringing is original and is from cord, possibly cat gut.It is very strong and does not need to be reinforced in any way. The heishi is hand cut, drilled and rolled and polished..
A very time intensive and difficult process. The 9 nuggets are extra large (see coin in photo for comparison) and extra beautiful with a brilliant blue color. It closes with small hand wrought sterling bench beads and a traditional hook and eye clasp. The total length of the necklace is 20.5 inches and it weighs 56 grams. The largest central nugget measures 1.25 inches in length and is.
The largest side nugget is 1 and 1/8th inches across and 7/8th of an inch wide. All of the nuggets are beautifully matched for color, size and shape. It's uncommon to find such nice large nuggets of vintage turquoise in a necklace.
The heishi is 4mm across and gently tapers in size right before the silver beads and clasp. They are beautifully made with a refined and elegant finish that contrasts perfectly with the bold natural nuggets. The two forms of beads used by the artist are opposites and enhance each other perfectly. It's a versatile statement piece that can go from casual to elegant with ease. Like all well done Native American jewelry, it's impressive and understated at the same time. The item "Vintage Santo Domingo Bright Blue Turquoise Nugget Heishi Bead Necklace" is in sale since Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
