This is a listing for a vintage Native American necklace strung with natural turquoise beads from the Cripple Creek mine in Nevada. This mine is no longer in operation and the necklace is several decades old, at least from the 70's and possibly older. It is strung with large free form turquoise nuggets that display the brighter blue shades of Cripple Creek turquoise. Hand cut and rolled heishi used as spacers and to finish the necklace, display the beautiful shades of green also mined at Cripple Creek. The mine is well known for the hardness of it's turquoise which can be cut and polished without the addition of stabilizers. Both the nuggets and the heishi... Have a soft warm natural polish. The necklace is in excellent vintage condition with no missing or damaged beads. The stringing material and hook and eye clasp are original. The beads are heavy and needed to be strung on wire, which is still secure for wearing. Silver bench beads finish the piece and they retain their original dark aged patina.
This is a statement piece that is 29 inches in length and weighs 164 grams. That's just over 5.5 ounces, so not a piece for anyone who doesn't tolerate a heavy necklace. The nuggets show a subtle graduation in size with the largest measuring 30mm by 22 mm with a thickness of 12mm.And the smallest nugget measures 17mm by 20mm with a thickness of 6mm. There are 31 gorgeous nuggets of turquoise. The heishi is approximately 8mm in diameter. There are 3 heishi beads between each turquoise nugget and a 3 inch length of heishi on each side that finishes the necklace.
The necklace is beautiful with it's vintage age and the warm and subtle colors of natural Colorado turquoise. The item "Vintage Navajo Santo Pueblo Cripple Creek Turquoise Nugget Heishi Necklace 30 IN" is in sale since Thursday, August 30, 2018.
