This is a listing for a vintage Native American turquoise nugget and shell heishi necklace. It's in excellent vintage condition, circa 1960's, possibly early 70's. The cones have acquired a very dark, almost black original patina and the hook and eye clasp are an earlier hand wrought design.
Two strands of rich blue turquoise nuggets are separated by dark brown and cream shell heishi. The nuggets are the same shade as my photos. Not a bright blue but a deeper rich blue, solid in shade with a slight scattering of matrix. The look when wearing is "solid" rich turquoise. Hanging length of the longest strand is 16 inches so the approximate total length of the longest strand would be 32 inches...
Nice long necklace that you can slip over your head without opening the clasp. But nice to have that option if you want to hang a wide bail pendant. The shorter strand falls right on top of the long one without a wide gap.I like the strands to fall close together as you get a more solid impact of turquoise. Weighs a substantial 82 grams.
Beautiful necklace with the warmth of old turquoise... Something that can't be captured with new beads.
