This is a listing for a Santo Domingo necklace strung with 3 strands of hand made melon shell heishi. Scattered turquoise heishi create a beautiful accent. I was told it was by Joe and Terry Reano. They are world renown bead makers that make each bead by hand in the old traditional way, using manual tools... A process they learned from their parents. It can take months to create a necklace. Each bead is flattened, cut, drilled, rolled and polished by hand. He and his wife were downsizing their collection before they moved. They did not keep the box it came in but told me that it had the Reano name on the box lid. The 3 strands are the same length, for a more impressive display when worn.
The total wearing length is 21.5 inches. The melon shell heishi measure 4.5mm and 2.5mm, strung in an alternating pattern that adds interest and texture to the design. A length of the smaller melon shell heishi finish the necklace. The turquoise beads are 5mm in size.. Deliberately just a half a milliliter larger, but enough to increase their impact as an accent.
The beads are finished with a silver bead and sterling cones and the clasp is a traditional hook and eye. The beads are strung on sturdy string, for a beautiful natural drape. It's a beautifully balanced design for texture, size and color of the beads. The earrings echo the design of the necklace and are very lightweight and comfortable. Melon shell beads have blended tones of peach and cream. It's a delicate color that is less commonly found in heishi pieces and very soothing on the eye. It makes a tremendous statement piece of understated beauty. The item "Santo Domingo Melon Shell Turquoise Heishi Necklace & Earrings Joe Terry Reano" is in sale since Sunday, October 21, 2018.
