Old Southwestern Santo Domingo Zuni Native American reversible / dual-sided multi-stone inlay Sterling silver Thunderbird heishi bead necklace, unmarked. T his classic heishi necklace showcases a beautiful Thunderbird pendant flush-inlaid with yellow abalone, turquoise, gray lavender shell, Lizardite agate? Onyx or jet, mother of pearl, white, and red shells, inlaid in stone-on-stone style (no channels).The mosaic bird does not have a setting or a bale, it was strung through a couple of holes at the head of the T-bird. There are 5 side pendants inlaid and strung on in the same fashion as the bird, in a graduated style. The heishi disc shaped beads were strung on in graduated style with beige, off white, and white beads. This necklace is about 28 1/2 from end to end. The dual layered necklace has a silver cone on each end with a hook at one terminal and a 5 1/2 link chain on the other.
The main and side pendants are dual-sided and have different color schemes and stones, however, on one side the top stones on two of the side pendants, which we believe to be Lizardite agate, are missing. The other side is complete. The Thunderbird pendant is 3" tall by almost 2" wide. The larger side pendants are just shy of 1 3/8" tall by 1/2" wide and taper slightly to 1 1/4" tall by 3/8" wide.This piece weighs approximately 137 grams!!
