Amazing Navajo Heishi Sterling Necklace Signed Santo Domingo Jet Turquoise Coral. This necklace is signed DFG for Navajo Kewa Santo Domingo artist David Fletcher Garcia. It is also marked Sterling.
It comes from the estate of a woman who collected many fine Native American items, ranging in age from antique to 1980s modern. I do not know the age of this necklace, but would guess 1970s to late 1980s. The 14 strands of fine heishi beads, composed predominately of jet with turquoise and coral beads, is accented with two spectacular sterling cones inlaid with large sized stones of turquoise, coral, lapis and jet or onyx? Completing the necklace are two traditional cones with the extension chain and hook and eye closure made of sterling silver. The overall length of the necklace is 30.5 but wearable length is adjustable.
The length of the Heishi beads is 11.75" while each part of the extension chain is about 6.5". The fine heishi beads measure about 2mm x 2mm each and the two blue beads trade beads? Are about 5mm in diameter.
The heishi beads are interspersed with sterling silver balls. The large stones of turquoise, coral, lapis and jet inlaid in the sterling cone each measure well over 10mm. The weight of the necklace is 72 grams. The condition is excellent: I see no damage and little wear. There is minor tarnish on the silver which could be polished if desired. This is an unusual, high-quality, one-of-a-kind piece! Please review all the photos and message any questions.
