This is a listing for an early century, circa 1940's, Santo Domingo necklace. It's in excellent condition, many decades old, and displays a wonderful assortment of natural Kingman turquoise beads interspersed with hand made shell heishi.
The turquoise has not been enhanced in any way. It closes with a handmade wire clasp which reflects it's earlier century time frame. The necklace has a wearing length of 27.5 inches and it weighs a substantial 137 grams. These are large turquoise stones with a beautiful natural nugget conformation and exceptional natural color and polish.
The stones graduate in size. The smaller beads next to the neckline average.
75 inches in length and approximately. The shell heishi is hand cut, drilled and rolled, in a warm shade of tan and measures 4mm across. The color of the turquoise is a medium bright blue with some of the beads shading to green. Some of the matrix is scattered and webbed in shades of dark mahogany brown. Other beads are solid blue in color with no matrix and some have iron pyrite that has been polished to a beautiful silver. They are all beautiful with a wonderful aged patina that can't be found in newly made beads. This is a wonderful necklace for the collector of old natural turquoise beads and shell heishi.
